Sally Tolan has been writing poems since 1980. In 2007, when Sally was eighty years old, she decided to publish her first book of poetry, Bloodroot. Every Tuesday, for three months, I biked to Sally’s apartment, where she read her poems to me. As time went on, she and I selected the poems for her book, and then proceeded to work on design, layout, image selection, proofing, title registration, and printing. Sally’s trust in letting me help her produce her first book of poetry was a gift to me. It doesn’t get any better than this.
