An Unconventional Journey

Writer and artist Lisa Paulson has challenged the status quo her entire life. Following a trip to Findhorn, Scotland, in 1976, she was compelled to bring the concepts of this flagship, intentional community back home to the American Midwest. With her husband, Belden, she cofounded High Wind, a rural enclave in eastern Wisconsin. An Unconventional Journey is the story of High Wind, a story told with Lisa’s words, photographs, and drawings. We worked closely with Lisa, letting the story evolve, and literally cutting and pasting the parts together until they told a cohesive tale. To even out the mix of black-and-white and color snapshots, we duotoned all the images. One of Lisa’s paintings became the cover. She describes the book as “gorgeous.” High praise from a remarkable woman.
